This would make a great place for higher class stores, which may come eventually as the economy inproves. Too many sports stores and below par shoe stores, junk stores. The central portion of the Union Station is a mall and definitely needs to be upgraded. The fitness center needs to be expanded, but I am sure that will come with time. The rooms in the old portion of the hotel are large and luxurious, and the best part is that you can really control the heat/air conditioning. This is an historic hotel and the grand hall never ceases to amaze me in its artistry and grandeur. They cater to your needs with graciousness. The Union Station Hotel is now run by Marriott, but has the same great staff they had when it was a Hyatt. VERY glad we didn't pay for a historic hotel only to get that. You had to walk from the Great Hall across a bridge over the mall into basically a stucco-walled 1980s Hampton Inn that they had constructed underneath the historic station canopy. We were also disappointed to see that the hotel rooms weren't even historic. The former Great Hall, now the hotel lobby was grand, but that was the only thing worth seeing here. On top of the emptiness, the mall was designed with a very hokey, Disney-ish feel that didn't fit in with the historic surroundings. The other half had extremely generic mall stores and a food court. Half the mall was empty of any stores, and this was the part we entered from, so it was a terrible first impression. Louis Centre, it's clear that retail doesn't work in DT St. So we went by on Saturday morning and discovered the shopping area to be a complete ghost town.
